Point Break Festival

Hundreds of people of all ages came together for the first ever Point Break Festival at Virginia Beach this weekend.

Large crowds gathered at two different stages for 24 performances with no set times overlapping.

Stephen Marley, Wiz Khalifa, Sublime, Pepper, Fortunate Youth and many others performed their hit songs Saturday.

Sunday Rebelution, Steel Pulse, Hirie, Passafire and more bands performed. Tribal Seeds was supposed to perform but they posted on their Instagram page that following the band’s recent tour a few of them got sick and tested positive for Covid Sunday.

Since they could not play, Fortunate Youth came back for day two and played another set.

Of Good Nature is a band from Charlotte, North Carolina that played on Sunday. TCC got the chance to speak with the lead singer and guitar player of the band Cam Brown.

“My favorite part about performing is connecting with people in person. Concerts and a big group of people having fun just feels good for the soul,” Brown said.

The Expendables were set to perform Sunday, but they posted on their Instagram the day of that due to a series of flight cancellations and delays on Saturday they would not be able to make their set time. Since they could not make it, the band Surfer Girl performed instead.

Austin Holley was one of the many at the festival both days. He told TCC seeing the band Fortunate Youth perform again Sunday was his favorite part. When asked what his favorite part of the whole experience was meeting new people and hearing how far folks had traveled.

Nate Cooper lives in the area and came with Austin Holley. He said his favorite performance of the weekend was Wiz Khalifa. Cooper had seen Khalifa more than seven years ago and told TCC after seeing him again, Khalifa definitely kept growing as an artist.

TCC also spoke to Brittney Whitmire who lives in the area and came to Point Break.

“My favorite part was the same reason I bought tickets for the festival, Rebelution,” Whitemire said.

The show was Whitemire’s third year in a row seeing Rebelution, and she shared with TCC she couldn’t miss the Point Break show.

“I’m a huge music fan in general, but their music specifically is my happy pill,” she said.

Overall the fans seemed to enjoy the two days of performances at the festival. Folks sang and danced along to the music that played.

As of now, there’s been no official word of a second Point Break Festival.
